Frequently asked questions

Got questions? We have answers.
01. What is home health care?
Home health care provides cost-effective services to individuals recovering from illness or surgery, living with chronic conditions and those who can avoid hospital admission and remain living safely at home with medical and personal care assistance.
02. Who qualifies for Home Health Care Services?
You must have a medical condition that meets the criteria for home health care. There must be a need for a skilled practitioner, such as a nurse, physical therapist, or speech therapist. A Medicare patient must be medically homebound (absences from the home are infrequent and of short duration, or to receive medical care, and must be a taxing effort).
03. Does my doctor have to order Verdugo Home Health services for me to receive them?
Yes, physician orders are required for skilled homecare: nurses, therapists, social worker, or home health aide and hospice. A physician order is not required for attendant care.
04. How long does home health care last?
The length of service depends on each patient’s diagnosis and needs as directed in their physician’s plan of care. Some patients require several weeks of care while others may remain on service for several months. Patients are discharged from home health care services when the individual goals on the plan of care are met.
05. Who pays for my home health care services?
Home health care is usually covered by Medicare and Medical if prescribed by a physician. Services are also often covered by employer health plans and private insurance carriers. Once we receive your referral for service, we’ll contact the insurance company directly and determine if coverage is available and if authorization is required. We’ll bill the insurance company directly, and let you know if any deductibles and co-pays apply.
06. How is the privacy of my personal information maintained?
Verdugo Home Health takes all precautions to maintain the confidentiality of your personal information, upon admission into services all of these precautions are reviewed with you by your professional staff.
07. Before I choose a caregiver, can I meet with them first?
Yes. We encourage patients and families to meet with their caregiver first. When your personalities match and you are comfortable to work with each other, continuity of care is easier to achieve.
